Armand-Albert RATEAU (1882-1938) Face à main à vue ovalisée, c. 1920, in patinated gilt bronze with ivory handle decorated with two peacocks supporting the mirror and small rosettes adorning the mirror. Unsigned. 31.5 x 13 cm History : Given by Armand-Albert Rateau to the current owner's grandparents in 1920 for their wedding. It has remained in the family ever since. A similar model is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum, New York, donated by Armand-Albert Rateau in 1925 (inv. 25.170). Another model was sold on December 19, 1994 at Ader Tajan, lot D. Alastair Duncan, AA Rateau, The Delorenzo Gallery, New-York, 1990, similar model referenced and reproduced on p. 32 (MET model) and on an in situ photo of Mme Rateau's dressing table on Quai de Conti, where a similar model can be seen resting on top, p. 58.
