Joseph CHINARD (1756-1813) Profile portrait of Jean François Reubell (1747-1807), member of the Directoire Terracotta medallion signed below the neck: Chinard de l'Institut, à Paris, et de l'Athène à ... D: 22.5 cm. Green lacquered wood and gilded frame Bears a label on the reverse with the inscription: Reubell (...), French politician, born and died in Colmar. President of the Bar Association in 1789, he was sent to the Estates General by the bailiwicks of Colmar and Selestadt. A member, then director, of the Conseil des Cinq-Cents, he became president of the Directoire in 1796 and left in 1799, eliminated by fate. An identical model is preserved at the Musée Carnavalet (Paris), acquired at public auction in 1991.
