Bas-relief depicting the head of a bearded man, standing thr - Lot 4
Bas-relief depicting the head of a bearded man, standing three-quarter left. The tousled hair is topped with a pilos. This is most probably a representation of Ulysses, with his mouth open. Carved in a very realistic style, this fragment was most likely taken from a sarcophagus depicting an episode in the Trojan War. Carrara marble. Small plaster filling at bonnet level. Roman art, 3rd century H.16 cm
